VitalSigns' Role and Contributions in the Age of AI

A recent lecture at National Taiwan University attracted considerable attention from both the media and the public. The speaker was none other than NVIDIA’s founder and CEO, Jensen Huang. In his lecture, Mr. Huang delved into the various challenges and opportunities as humanity steps into the AI era, emphasizing how AI technology is rapidly transforming our lifestyles and work habits. This discussion also highlighted how AI technology will shape our future and become a driving force for human progress.

In his speech, Mr. Huang mentioned that many companies, universities, and research institutions in Taiwan are actively using NVIDIA’s high-end GPU technology to achieve breakthroughs in software for tasks that either humans can do or cannot do. NVIDIA’s GPU technology, with its superior computing power and efficient data processing capabilities, provides strong support for various AI applications, thereby accelerating the development and implementation of technologies in relevant fields.

In this context, VitalSigns has also participated in several significant research projects, assisting many research institutions and medical units. For instance, we have supported our alma mater, National Chiao Tung University, Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, National Taiwan University Hospital, and other institutions, helping them achieve notable results in the diagnosis and research of heart diseases and related conditions. Our technology enables these institutions to more effectively analyze and process large volumes of medical data, thereby improving the accuracy and efficiency of disease diagnosis.

Unlike traditional static image recognition technology, VitalSigns’ technology allows medical centers and researchers to obtain real-time electrocardiogram data from patients. This technology enables patients to monitor their condition in their daily lives without needing to visit medical institutions for examinations, thereby reducing disruptions to their lives. Moreover, this remote monitoring technology makes it easier for research teams to establish and expand the physiological big data sets they need, which are crucial for training AI models.

The core advantage of our smart cloud technology lies in its ability to achieve 24-hour continuous remote monitoring, ensuring that all patients can be thoroughly monitored remotely without having to visit medical institutions. This continuity and immediacy allow our AI interpretation system to obtain more comprehensive data, thereby improving the accuracy and reliability of diagnoses.

Our technology has overcome the past limitations of relying solely on data from patients who have already developed diseases. Through long-term dynamic monitoring, we can obtain the complete progression from a healthy state to the onset of disease. This process may span several months or years and involve large amounts of data. These rich data not only help us better understand the development of diseases but also provide more comprehensive and in-depth training material for AI models.

In the process of training AI models, these data can be used to generate more precise predictive results. In the past, AI predictions were often limited to binary judgments of “whether there is a disease.” Now, through deep learning technology, we can define more fuzzy states between health and disease. These new fuzzy states provide more diagnostic dimensions, enabling us to understand patients’ health conditions more precisely.

This improvement will bring significant benefits to patients’ health management. When faced with potential disease risks, patients will have more opportunities to adjust their lifestyles and receive early preventive medical treatment. This not only enhances the effectiveness of disease prevention but also reduces the need for patients to undergo emergency medical procedures.

The development of AI technology allows us to address health and disease-related issues in a more advanced and precise manner. Through long-term data collection and analysis, we can more comprehensively understand the development of diseases and, on this basis, provide more accurate predictions and recommendations. This not only improves the quality of medical services but also offers patients more choices and opportunities for health management.
